Maybe you’re wondering, why “Wild Chives”? Is there a story behind the name? Yes, there is! And it’s a story that goes all the way back to Mongolia.
I’m from Mongolia—that’s something all my friends know about me, mostly because I talk about it a lot. I’m proud of my country, and I’ve traveled all over in it. But one part, the Gobi Desert, always has an extra-special place in my heart. It is mysterious, hot and dry in the summertime,

but one of the most beautiful places

that I've ever been to. I will never forget seeing the desert covered with

the purple flowers of wild chives.
Mongolia has 52 native Alliums—that’s onions and their relatives—and two of these species are chives that grow wild in the Gobi region. There’s khomuul, with the purple flowers, and taana, which flowers white or purple. Both are hugely important to wildlife and help to decrease desertification, too. And they’ve been used for food and medicine for years and years.
These plants, they remind me of everything I’m trying to accomplish, the whole reason I’m growing
and selling microgreens, sprouts, and herbs for my new home in the Keene area.
And that's why I decided to call my business "Wild Chives."
